Signs that work
Complex factory signage design project for global architecture firm
Developing the safety and information signage on a large new factory in Shanghai was no easy task.
The EHS specialists from global architect firm WSP commissioned JungleFish to create signage design concepts and artwork for the whole site. The project took 8 months and comprised over 400 complex infographics, site maps and safety guideline posters.
We started with a basic design framework for infographics that aligned with client’s corporate branding and provided a consistent experience for the visitor:
- where what type of information is displayed.
- which parts are provided bi-lingual
- color coding for different priorities of information (eg. safety routes vs parking information)
Once this was defined, much time was dedicated to finding specific infographics solutions based on the technical input from WSP and the actual situation on site.
While visual appeal takes the back seat in such a project, the challenge to structure and present clear and comprehensive information, make it easy to use is at the core of good design.
